Weekly Fishing Reports for San Carlos Sonora Mexico from What’s Up San Carlos

This coming weekend is the 6th Annual Yellowtail Tournament hosted by Ruby Wine Bar. We have had a few excellent days bottomfishing. In close we are getting nice 2-4 pound Golden Spotted Sea Bass known as Calicos here.

San Carlos Yellowtail Fishing Tournament: Feb 25-26

For these two days, why not get your competitive juices flowing to break up the winter and join in – you’ll quickly experience the excitement of yellowtail fishing!

Fishing Report: Feb 13

We had a few big fish up to 20 pounds swimming around off of San Antonio point, with most of the fish in the 10-12 pound range.

Fishing Report: Feb 8

We picked up four large yellowtail this morning right out front in nice seas. The weather looks good for the week, and the water is attempting to warm up. There are plenty of fish out there.

Fishing Report: January 17

Pick your days and head out to the Island for your best bet. Most catches have been pretty good on nice-sized yellowtail.

Fishing Report: Jan 3

Not to be concerned though my father was out the next day for what he stated was his best day ever jigging the Island. We followed that up on New Year’s Day with another great catch at San Pedro.

Fishing Report - Dec 28 2011

The fish are still off of San Antonio, occasionally moving a little father up to Deer Island or off of La Manga. I can’t recall ever having better fishing.

Fishing Report - Dec 14 2011

The fishing off of San Antonio was still excellent last week. A lot of the fish are nicely sized in the 13 – 19 pound range.

Fishing Report - Dec 6 2011

We had great action on a few mornings, often barely getting the lines out or waiting but a few minutes before the next strike. Most boats have been getting a fish or two to eat. Many of the yellowtail are in the 13- 19 pound range, and there are still some nice Sierra and Bonita around.

Fishing Report - Nov 29 2011

The fishing is good not too far out. My friend caught a couple of nice yellowtail right around the Seamounts. Most of the action has been within a few miles of San Antonio Point

Fishing Report Nov 22 2011

San Pedro proved to have some great action in the afternoons this last week for some large yellowtail. By the time we got there though on Saturday it seemed inundated with barracuda. There are still some nice bonita there and the bait is thick.

Fishing Report

Yellowtail up to 16 pounds. A few bonita and sierra are still out there, and there are some cabrilla around. We saw a few Fin Whales this week.

Fishing Report November 9

Most mornings are fishable even on windy days. We scraped a few yellowtail literally off of San Antonio, a few sierra, lots of big skipjack, a couple of nice bull dorado and a yellowtail.

Fishing Report: Nov 2

The fish are out there and I feel that we still may have a month of fishing. There was a strong bonita bite on Saturday at San Antonio, there are numerous bonita at the Island, there should be some even larger sierra showing up anytime, and the yellowtail should slowly begin showing up on the surface.

San Carlos Fishing Report: October 25 2011

The news on the fishing front is big tuna. Some larger dorado are being caught.

Fishing Report: Oct 17 2011

October 14th will go down as the day of the tuna … rumors to 250 pounds are circulating.

Fishing Report: Oct 11 2011

This last weekend was the annual Cantina Cup. A lot of big, feisty sailfish are out there. Along with the yellowtail are big jacks, bonita, skipjack, and more. There are bonita and sierra in close along with snapper and cabrilla showing up.

Fishing Report September 27 2011

San Carlos hosted the 2nd Pacifico Light Tournament over the weekend with a whopping 77 boats entered. A giant Blue Marlin weighing 662 pounds was caught.

A message from the Tournament Director about planning and preparation for the Cantina Cup 2011.

Fishing Report September 6 2011

It’s always a beautiful day after the tournament. It also helps if you just won!

Fishing Report Aug 30 2011

The news of this week is some of the best tuna fishing we have had in years.

some good numbers of fish 35 miles to the west past San Pedro

There are tuna around! The afternoon bite is usually the best, but most boats are back at the dock by then. Tuna weighing up to 40 pounds have been caught this week.

The small ‘football’ sized tuna were caught only four to six miles out. We caught several of our sailfish and some eating-size dorado in close. There are plenty of small skipjack just offshore, some sierra mackerel are starting to show, and small dorado are there too.

Now is the time to be fishing in San Carlos! We had a plague of green water last week, but it is quickly clearing up. The algae bloom was extremely late this year and I believe is mainly caused by the cold water mixing with the warm water. The cold water from winter though will [read more ...]

San Carlos Yacht Club/Rescate de San Carlos: 11th Annual International Fishing Tournament; June 3 – 5, 2011

We’ve been out this week a couple of times to the Island. Both days had good bites, with the action picking up in the afternoon. The first day saw us catching consistent fish on the jigs just off the south end of the Island.

Fishing Report May 11 2011

The dorado have finally come in. They aren’t the big ones yet, but they sure taste good and at times they are thick in number. I heard of boats coming back from the other side that have seen tuna. A few marlin are being seen.

We had a busy Semana Santa week, but not that many people were here to go fishing. We were able to catch some nice cabrilla and pargo on a few trips in the bay. One big fat female cabrilla weighed almost 15 pounds. I’m sure the two fishermen in the little panga next to us [read more ...]

The town is getting ready for the big party. Most of the boats this weekend will just be cruising around blaring music. I haven’t heard of anyone going to the Island. The full moon should be waning and hopefully some reports will start to come in. Earlier in the week we saw multiple schools of [read more ...]
