Doctors

In San Carlos, there are two reputable, bilingual doctors who are popular with the Americans and Canadians.

• Dr. Jose Canale – in Clinica San Carlos building, located off the main street behind Modelorama, in San Carlos.  Tel: 226-0062

• Dr. Horacio Erausquin – located in Los Jitos plaza.  Open Monday – Wednesday – Fridays, from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm.  Tel:  226-1585

Your visit to the doctor will likely be a “pay-as-you-go” service.  Check in advance if they accept credit cards as payment.

Dentists

In San Carlos, Dra. Maricela Arizmendi is highly recommended.  She and her staff speaks English well.  Open Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. Her office is located in the Hacienda Plaza.  Phone: 226-2155.

Rescate

Rescate in a rescue and emergency medical service located on the main street by the OXXO in San Carlos.  They have bilingual doctors on staff or available and 4 ambulances.  Tel is 226-0911 (Emergency) or 226-0101 (Business Office).

Throughout the year, there are a lot of fundraising events put on to support Rescate services.  These include fishing tournaments, bazaars and rummage sales, the annual Melodrama, publication of a cookbook and community directory of residents and services.

In Guaymas, the Red Cross Station (Cruz Roja) next to the VW Dealership gives emergency treatment.  Tel is 222-5555 (Emergency).

Rescate ambulances can take patients to hospitals in Hermosillo or arrange for air transportation. The CIMA Hospital in Hermosillo is recommended because of their high standards of care. It is possible for foreigners in Mexico to sign up for private health insurance or for the government-sponsored insurance, once they have their FM3s.

Pharmacies

There are a lot of pharmacies (Farmacias) in Guaymas and San Carlos.  Most medications do not require a prescription, and often they are cheaper to buy here than in the US or Canada.  However, some prescriptions may be rather pricey without insurance.  Always ask “Cual es el mas barato” to avoid paying marked-up prices.

The best prices are at Benavidez and VH Farmacias.
