fishing San Carlos mexicoThings are certainly heating up in San Carlos! One place that it’s almost always cool is in the shade on the water. It helps to have some breeze though, and this week was dead flat. You could see every little ripple from baitfish to the marlin. We came up on one ripple that turned out to be a 50 foot whale shark! The head looked to be 12 feet wide. There are all sorts of whales, dolphin, turtles, seals, mantas, and of course fish out there. We almost ran over one hammerhead that was over ten feet long.

Yesterday I put our first line in the water and had a marlin on in five seconds. I don’t think that that will ever happen again! We tried the Island for yellowtail with live bait on Friday. It seems that things have slowed down there. The three boats there all caught but one fish. Things could pick back up there though. One boat came back from Tortuga that experienced incredible yellowtail fishing there with fish up to 30 pounds. We found some nice snapper in close.

The pangas were trying hard for cabrilla but didn’t look to be having too much luck . They have had some nice ones in the cooler at the Esterito though. This is the time for big cabrilla and grouper in close. On the way back from the Island we passed our first marlin that we were able to hook up and get halway to the boat before it threw the hook. There are billfish jumping everywhere out there. Lots of sailfish are starting to show up and a friend said he saw a blue of around 350 pounds jumping. We probably saw fifty or more billfish jumping yesterday and passed fifteen on the surface. They should soon start biting good. There are some that are within a mile of shore.

Most of the dorado are farther out around the seaweed. Some fish in the twenty pound range are being caught. The big ones should be here any day now. Hopefully with some tuna! The water is getting up to eighty degrees and deep blue. Fishing season is here! Sign up for one of the fishing tournaments.
