GENERAL RULES: International Angling Rules shall govern this Tournament. This tournament is limited to Sailfish, Marlin, Dorado, Yellowfin tuna, and Wahoo.
1. Fishing hours:
Saturday 7:00AM – 4:00 PM
Sunday 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Note: Scales will be open at 3:00 PM on Saturday and 2:00 PM on Sunday. All lines to be in at 4:00 PM on Saturday and 3:00 PM on Sunday. The WEIGH STATION WILL CLOSE AT 6:00 PM on Saturday and 5:00 PM on Sunday (unless a fish is being fought in which case the weigh station will remain open).
2. Starting times relate to leaving Marina San Carlos outer harbor inside the red marker beacon or Marina Real, inside the breakwater. We will have start boats at each marina and these boats will be announced before the start of fishing each day. Any boat leaving ahead of the official starting time will be disqualified from the Tournament for that day.
3. Closing hours relate to bringing ALL LINE IN unless you are fighting a fish. At closing time all lines must be brought in and you must proceed back and check-in with the weigh station. Any fish that is hooked up and reported prior to closing time may be fought and counted if it is successfully boated. This event must be reported to tournament control as soon as possible.
4. The tournament radio will keep the official time.
5. The Weigh Station will be located at Marina San Carlos to weigh in fish or report-released fish. You are responsible for checking in each day. If you do not have fish to report, you must check in by radio to Tournament Control. Failure to report will result in disqualification of the day’s catch.
6. Report all fish to Tournament Control Channel VHF 85.
7. Dorado are limited to 2 per angler per day, Yellow fin tuna and Wahoo are limited to 5 per angler per day. There is not a limit on released Marlin or Sailfish.
8. All eligible fish weighed in will count 1 point per pound. Minimum weight to qualify is 18 pounds per fish. Fish under 18 pounds will not qualify. Any Dorado, Yellow fin tuna or Wahoo in excess of 36 lbs. will receive an additional 100 points.
9. Released Billfish will count as 150 points. Sailfish and Marlin will be classified together as Billfish. Tournament is CATCH AND RELEASE only for billfish.
10. Any Billfish that dies must be brought to the weigh station. Billfish become the property of the Tournament.
11. Each boat will be considered a team. Total Points will determine awards.
12. Individual boats can enter any or all of the Jack Pots.
13. RELEASE RULES: Each registered boat will be given a camera. Only photos taken with this camera will be used. The following rules apply to the use of the camera.
A. The first photo taken with the camera will be of the stern of the boat, ensuring that the full registered name of the boat appears in the photo or a crewmember appears in the photo.
B. When a Billfish is being caught and prior to bringing it alongside the boat, you must call Tournament Control and request a control number. When that number is given, a crewmember will show the appropriate number of fingers and the billfish in the photo. If it is necessary to take more than one photo to ensure accuracy, each photo MUST have a crewmember indicating the same control number.
C. Immediately upon release of the billfish please report to Tournament Control.
D. Day 2 – A photo must be taken of the stern end of the boat with a crewmember holding two (2) fingers visible by the camera. All catches will be photographed in the same manner as the previous day.
E. After the final day of fishing, all cameras are to be turned in at the weigh station. Failure to turn in a camera may result in disqualification of all fish caught.
F. The Tournament Committee reserves the right to replace a camera after the first day of fishing.
