We will have start boats at each marina starting line and these boats will be announced before the start of fishing each day. Any boat leaving ahead of the official starting time will be disqualified from the Tournament for that day.

FISHING RULES
Unless otherwise stated elsewhere in these rules or amended at the captains meeting, the below rules will apply throughout this tournament.
• Dead bait, live bait and lures are acceptable for the Tournament. Participants are responsible for their own bait.
• The stated line and leader strength shall be 30-lbs or greater in order to increase the survivability of the fish. Use of braided line with a monofilament top shot is acceptable. Line test for braided line should not exceed 130-lbs
• The combined length of the double line and the leader shall not exceed 40 feet, including all knots and hooks, and the length of the leader itself shall not exceed 30 feet. Combined length will be measured from the start of the knot in the case of double line or the point where the leader is connected to the fishing line; extending to the bottom of the hook.
• Both J-hooks and circle hooks are acceptable.
• Up to seven rods with hooks and four teasers without hooks in the water at any given time. Anglers can rotate rods at any time.
• The hook-up must be carried out by one angler without assistance from fellow anglers or crew. Once a fish is hooked, it is prohibited to transfer the rod to another angler. The rod must be removed from the rod holder prior to the hook set. The rod may not contact the boat transom or gunwales for purposes of leverage or angler rest.

PHOTO DOCUMENTATION RULES:
Each registered boat will be given a camera. Only photos taken with this camera will be eligible. The following rules apply to the use of the camera.
The first photo taken with the camera will be of the stern of the boat, ensuring that the full registered name of the boat appears in the photo and a crewmember must appear in the photo.
When a billfish is being caught, you must call Tournament Control and request a control number or hand signal PRIOR TO BRINGING THE FISH ALONGSIDE THE BOAT. When that number or signal is given, a crewmember will show the appropriate number of fingers and the billfish in the photo. If it is necessary to take more than one photo to ensure accuracy, each photo MUST have a crewmember indication the same control number.
Immediately upon release of the billfish, please report to Tournament Control.
Day 2 – A photo must be taken of the stern of the boat with a crewmember holding up or displaying two (2) fingers visible by the camera. All catches will be photographed in the same manner as the previous day.
After the final day of fishing, all cameras are to be turned in at the weigh station. Failure to turn in a camera may result in disqualification of all fish caught.
The Tournament Committee reserves the right to replace a camera after the first day of fishing.

BILLFISH SCORING AND RELEASE RULES
• This is a billfish release only tournament. A legal catch is defined as touching the leader but must also include the picture of fish with appropriate hand signals as described above. Released billfish will count 200 points. Sailfish and Marlin will be classified together as billfish.
• Hook removal should be considered while releasing billfish. However, safety to the crew and fish is always paramount. If the hook cannot be safely removed, the leader should be cut as close to the hook as possible. Never pop or yank the hook from the billfish.
• 100 Points may be awarded if a billfish dies during the fight. Any billfish that dies must be declared by radio and brought to the weigh station to be awarded points.

FUN FISH SCORING
Dorado, Yellow Fin tuna and Wahoo are limited to 2 per species per angler per day. All participating anglers are urged to release those fish not to be entered into the tournament. The release of a fish should be with the best conservation methods in mind to ensure continued life. All eligible fish weighed in will count 1 point per pound. Minimum weight to qualify is 15 pounds per fish. Fish under 15 pounds will not qualify. Any Dorado, Yellow Fin Tuna, or Wahoo that weigh in between 25-34 pounds will receive an additional 50 points, any Dorado, Yellow Fin Tuna, or Wahoo that weigh in between 35-44 pounds receive an additional 75 points, and any Dorado, Yellow Fin Tuna, or Wahoo that weigh over 45 pounds will receive an additional 100 points.

Note: Scales will be open at 2:00 PM daily. The Weigh Station will be located at Marina San Carlos. THE WEIGH STATION WILL CLOSE AT 6:00 PM SATURDAY AND AT 5:00 PM SUNDAY-(unless a hook-up is reported during the last 10 minutes of the day in which case the weigh station will remain open for that boat only on Saturday). This does not apply on Sunday-you must be at the weigh station by 5:00 PM or your entire Sunday catch will be disqualified. Any weighed fish may be examined by any means necessary.

PRIZES
TEAM/BOAT PRIZES

Team/Boat Prizes – Trophies will be awarded to the top three teams/boats based on overall billfish releases and fun fish points combined.
DAILY JACKPOTS
Daily Jackpots – There will be 4 daily jackpot categories:
The $500 USD Open Category
The $300 USD Open Category
The $100 USD Open Category
The $100 USD Junior Category (under age of 18)
The payout will be as follows: The Tournament will keep 20% per jackpot category. This money will go to support and promote Sonora is Safe. The remaining 70% per jackpot category will be paid out to the respective winners.
CAPTAIN’S PRIZE
This is an optional prize. This is solely to help support the local fishing captains. If you wish to enter your captain it will be $50 USD. All of the money from this prize will be given to the captain from the team with the most points.
TIES
All ties will be broken based on release or catch time. Final billfish released and/or final Fun fish caught will be the times looked at. For example: Joe releases his last billfish at 3:30 p.m. and John catches his final Dorado at 4:00 p.m. on the final day, bringing John’s grand total of points for the fishing days to equal Joe’s. Joe’s fish was caught and released before John’s fish was caught thus Joe wins.
“Whoever catches their last fish earliest on the final day wins.”

DISPUTES, PROTESTS & LIABILITY
Any disputes, complaints, or deviations must be submitted in writing to a member of the Rules Committee prior to the next day’s start or by 6:30 PM Sunday.
PROTESTS
