San Carlos Art Gallery

What do James Cameron and many art aficionados have in common? Their love and appreciation of the talents of Puerto Vallarta artist Armando Becerra of course! Becerra, who paints under the name of Becris (a combination of his parents' last names) in the United States, is a focal artist in the Galeria Bellas Artes Fine Arts Gallery in San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico. The gallery is a showcase for the works of approximately 30 artists from Guadalajara, Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta, and includes local San Carlos talent as well. To view some of artwork, visit the gallery's website.

Architect and owner Burke Rutherford and his wife, Pilar, designed this charming gallery. Mr. Rutherford’s artistic skills not only include architecture, he is a sculptor as well. His passion for sculpture and art in general led to his decision to open a gallery in his adopted home of San Carlos fifteen years ago.

Rosie Garcia, the gallery manager for the past eleven years, showed me several oil paintings by Mexican artist Jorge Prieto and other crafts by Mexican artisans.

The gallery is able to provide custom framing and they also carry a supply of ready-made frames.

With the capability to pack and ship your purchases, there is no reason not to pick up a painting as a gift or to ship back home as a souvenir of your visit to San Carlos!
