January

SBPA Fashion Show 2009

  • January 1: Año Nuevo/New Years Day is an official Mexican holiday.
  • January 6: El Dia de Reyes (Three Kings Day).
  • January 20 – 28: Festival Dr. Alfonso Ortiz Tirado (FAOT).
  • January 25. SBPA’s annual Fashion Show & Luncheon
  • January 27-29. Rescate President’s Cup Golf Tournament.

February

  • February 5: Día de la Constitución an official holiday that commemorates Mexico’s Constitution.
  • February 5. The selection of Rey Feo (ugly King) and Queen of Carnaval de Guaymas 2011 are chosen.
  • February 12. Estero del Soldado mountain bike race. Serial XC 2 Mountain Bike event on the single track by the estuary.
  • February 13 – 21. Carnaval de Guaymas 2012.
  • February 19. San Carlos is Nuts for Mutts 5k Walk-a-thon.
  • February 21. Annual Rotary Tour of Homes.
  • February 25: Rescate Grand Bazaar.
  • February 25-26. Yellowtail Fishing Tournament.
  • February 26. Walk for Life.

March

Semana Santa

  • March 3. Rescate Casino night.
  • March 5. Liga de Arte show at Loma del Mar, 10:00am to 2:00pm.
  • March 10. Carne Asada at the elementary school in the Ranchitos, 12:00am. This is a fund raiser for the PTA of the elementary school and the kindergarden in the Ranchitos.
  • March 10. Ceramics Show at Club Deportivo, includes: Silent Auction, Bake Sale, Sloppy Joes, and Raffle items. 10:00am -12:30pm.
  • March 11.  SBPA Chili Cook Off. Los Jitos Plaza, 11:00am.
  • March 12. Annual Yellowtail open free Diving Spearfishing Tournament.
  • March 16-18. Sonora Riders present motorcycle exhibitions, shows and live music.
  • March 18, 19 & 20: Melodrama – watch your friends and neighbors in the annual Melodrama and support Rescate. At Rescate, 7:00pm.
  • March 21: The Birthday of Benito Juárez, a famous Mexican president and national hero, this is an official Mexican holiday.
  • March 27. Castaway Kids’ CD Release Party & Concert on the Beach at La Palapa Griega at 1:00pm. With performances by Mark Mulligan, Sam Rainwater and many more musicians from the CD.

April

  • April 21. Sons of Freedom motorcycle rally.
  • April 6. Good Friday Service at the San Carlos Community Church.
  • April 8. San Carlos Community Church Sunday Morning Easter Communion Service.
  • April 26 – May 20 Expo Gan in Hermosillo.
  • April 27-28. Lions Club Boat Rally.

  • May 1: Dia del Trabajo. Mexican national holiday (similar to US & Canada Labor Day).
  • May 3: Día de la Santa Cruz. Construction workers decorate and mount crosses on unfinished buildings.
  • May 5: Cinco de Mayo is the Mexican national holiday.
  • May 10 Mother’s Day in Mexico.
  • May 15 Teacher’s Day in Mexico.
  • May 24 – 27. Fiesta del Pitic.
  • May 26-27. Tucson Sailing Club Spring Regatta.
  • May 25, 26 & 27. The Ladies International Fishing Tournament. Sponsored by Club Deportivo de San Carlos.
  • May 26. 12 Horas Salvando Vidas mountain bike race.

June

Navy day

  • June 1: Dia de la Marina (Mexican Navy Day). Official Mexican holiday. Celebration in Guaymas.
  • June 1 – 3. The Rescate/Yacht Club Fishing Tournament.

July

  • July 6 – 8. 65th International Billfish Tournament. Hosted by the Ernesto Zaragoza, Charity Foundation.
  • July 13: Annual Festival del Mar Bermejo. To commemorate the anniversary of The Battle of Guaymas, which occured on July 13, 1854. Celebrated July 7 – 13, 2012.
  • July 18: Anniversary of the death of President Benito Juárez (March 21, 1806 to July 18, 1872).
  • July 30: Anniversary of the death of Miguel Hidalgo (May 8, 1753 to July 31, 1811).

August

3 Presidents Plaza

  • August 8: Anniversary of the birth of Emiliano Zapata (b.Aug 8, 1879, d.April 10, 1919).
  • August 31. Guaymas Anniversary. On August 31, 1769 José de Gálvez founded the town of Guaymas and assigned the first plots.

September

  • September 1: Annual State of the Union.
  • August 30 – September 3. Labor Day Invitational Fishing Tournament.
  • September 13: Los Niños Héroes, Hero of the Mexican-American War 1847.
  • September 15: “El Grito” in Plaza De Los Tres Presidentes, Guaymas for Mexican Independence Day.
  • September 16: Independence Day Parade, in Guaymas.

  • November 1-2: All Saints Day & Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) is an important Mexican holiday. Festival de la Calaca.
  • November TBA. Tucson Sailing Club, Fall Regatta.
  • November TBA. Rescate Welcome back Party at Marina Terra Beach Club.
  • November 20: Mexican Revolution Day. This official Mexican holiday commemorates the Mexican Revolution of 1910. School parade down the blvd.

December

  • December TBA: Rescate Christmas Sale on the Marinaterra Boardwalk.
  • December TBA: Rescate Tianguis.
  • December TBA. San Carlos Community Church Ranchitos Evening Christmas Carols and Music.
  • December 12: Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe, Mexico’s patron saint.
  • December 16-24: Las Posadas- nine days of traditional festivities.
  • December 24: Noche Buena (Christmas Eve). Yacht Club Parade of Lights.
  • December 25: Christmas / Navidad.
  • December 28: The Holy Innocents National Holiday similar to April Fools’s Day, celebrated with lots of practical jokes.
  • December 31: Fin de Año/New Years Eve.

    OK ron will be playing at Evie’s Iguana bar and grill next Saturday 8 to 10 pm July 9 on the outside porch across from Hotel Terra in lovely down town San Carlos Mexico
    10 pesos per mug of chope draft beer and every body is happy :)
