David James Tyrrell was a Supply Officer in Saigon during the Viet Nam War supplying our troops with food, arms, drugs, and medical equipment by helicopter.
While he managed to get through the war David’s Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSS) was not dealt with at the time. Later in life in his 50’s he developed memory problems and was misdiagnosed by two VA hospitals with early onset of Alzheimer’s Disease. Eventually he was correctly diagnosed at TMC (Tucson Medical Center) with NPH (Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus). The Tucson VA refused to believe it and without the proper medical attention David’s condition deteriorated.
The VA hospital finally released David and assigned him to an inadequate nursing home where he was mistreated without proper side rails to his hospital bed. Upon having a seizure he fell out of his bed hitting his head on the brake to the bed causing permanent brain damage. Surgery did stop the brain bleed at the time but left him with severe permanent brain damage.
As a resident of San Carlos for many years David sits helplessly in a wheelchair and cannot see or speak and basically is a prisoner in his own body which requires 24/7 nursing care.
Because of all the caregiving that David has required through the years his money has finally run out and he is now in need of some help. David needs mechanical equipment to move him more comfortably in his home. We have found the only person in Guaymas who has his own wrought iron shop and successfully builds a simple caged elevator out of wrought iron vertically using a garage gate/chain opener to pull the elevator. The estimate which includes materials, labor, and installation will be around $4,000usd.
Please help us make David’s life more comfortable.
