Bonifacio’s Cotton Club
“Relaxed Elegance with a Passion for Detail”
Yes the name is different for our beach community, but soon it will become a household name and everyone will know where it is: Located just west of the popular Soggy Peso on Algodones Beach and South of Paradiso- take the palm studded road that brings you past Astrid’s Horse riding corrals and go 50 meters beyond the Peso and you find an indoor-outdoor-open- “Beach Lounge” restaurant that serves lunch and then dinner until 10:00pm.
Weekends there will be a variety of live music until after midnight.
The Grand Opening is March 5th all day. Music begins at sunset with Eric Holland on stage. Mention What’s Up San Carlos and receive a free appetizer!
The Bonifacio family is new to San Carlos: Francisco, his wife Sandra and their three young children. Also we need to welcome Francisco’s sisters Lidya and Pame, who will be the full time managers of the Cotton Club. OK, here is an example of a ‘middle of the road’ priced dinner entrée: Pork Tenderloin over Spinach and (ajo) garlic, mashed potatoes topped with mango piña chutney sauce, glazed with a white teriyaki salsa. Vamos!! An example of an appetizer: Tapas al pesto hoja Santa leaf wrap. To find out more about the menu, you gotta visit this place!
Amazing decorations, private dining rooms, sunroof, stand-up bar and all beachside on Algodones beach!
The expertise and flow of this restaurant beach bar-concept stems from their other family restaurant and touring business in El Fuerte near Copper Canyon (south of us). There, they provide eclectic ambience, food, hotel accommodations, music and travel packages that appeal to all cultures.
Spanish-trivia-lesson: Algodones (this beach) means cotton. You can call Bonifacio’s Cotton Club for info or your own pequeño fiesta: 227-0515. For more information, visit their website www.torrestravelcompany.com.

Seafarin’ Kayakers
The Seafarin’ Kayakers, sponsored by the San Carlos Yacht Club, spent another great day on the water. Thirteen kayaks paddled for 2 hours from La Posada Beach out to the island and back. At the Island, they enjoyed close-up encounters with the many birds including the resident Blue footed Boobies. Post-paddle they lunched by the La Posada pool. Fern is planning additional kayaking trips every other week. Everyone is invited to join the fun. For more information, call the SCYC at 226-0163 or 226-1519. |

Who’s Who in Entertainment?
Neil is a great acoustic solo guitarist and is known to be seen at Captain’s Club on Thursdays and during open mic on Sunday evening. He also plays at La Palapa with the Bobby and Leslie show. Sam Rainwater and Neil often jam together around town. Michelle, Neil’s wife is involved with the SBPA. Nine Questions for Neil What was the first concert you ever saw? Deep Purple in 1972. Ritchie Blackmore at his best and my hearing has almost recovered. What are you listening to these days? In recent years my tastes have been heading South. The Pogues are a South Irish band with bad teeth and a raw Appalachian sound. What was the first album you owned? Beach Boys Concert circa 1964. Beaches, cars, girls and endless hope. Everything a kid could want. What artist, genre or musical trend does everyone seem to love, but you just don’t get? Barry Manilow. What musical act, current or defunct would you most like to see perform live? It’s a trite answer, the Beatles . Musically speaking what is your favorite guilty pleasure? I would like to say Sunday brunch listening to Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World”. A more honest answer is Margaritaville radio and a six pack. What song would you like to have played at your funeral? Warren Zevon, “Send Lawyers, Guns and Money.” I’m probably going to need a lot of help in the afterlife. What band or artist changed your life and how? A lot of music had a negative influence on me. Jimmy Buffett planted a positive seed about traveling, sailing and a life well lived. Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time? Jethro Tull, Aqualung the album is both dour and soaring, folk and hard rock. Jethro Tull is about the tightest band I’ve seen. I listened to it today and it’s still holding up well. Who’s Who in Entertainment is written by local musician Eric Holland |

An American Idol from Guaymas.
Johan Broere’s Dive Report
Still playing is
Starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. Reviewers said the following about The Proposal: “It’s a solid, old-fashioned romantic comedy that’s more interested in the romance than in being silly or raunchy…”; “Enjoyable romcom that succeeds thanks to the chemistry and comic timing of its two leads”; and “…there is something refreshing about The Proposal’s undemanding humor and unabashed feel-good factor.”
