It has rich culture and history, with magnificent historic buildings, beautiful murals, museums, theatre and a renowned philharmonic orchestra. Guadalajara is an excellent place to go shopping whether you're looking to fully furnish your new San Carlos house or just looking for a couple unique items. You can find a wide variety of products, including handicrafts, fine pieces of art, shoes, glass-blown pieces, leather, furniture and ceramics. There are also lots of parks, plazas and fountains to sit, relax and watch the Tapatios (people of Guadalajara). |

Where are the Fish?
A lot of dorado are being found out in the center and around Tortuga Island on the seaweed patches. Fish up to 30 pounds are being caught. A couple of wahoo were seen, and there are marlin out there too. The marlin are pretty scattered everywhere, and you can even find them just a mile or two offshore. There are plenty of sailfish around too. We caught some nice bonita at the Island to eat. It hasn't looked like the pangas are catching too much on the bottom at the reef, but they sure are trying hard. On a sunset cruise, I dropped a line in and within twenty seconds, I caught an 8 pound cabrilla, and thirty seconds later, a 5 pound pargo at Honeymoon Island. There is lots of bait showing up and the water is looking clear. After getting skunked one day, I was a little concerned about taking a group out the next day. But, it turned out to be a great one with two dorado, a marlin, and a sailfish being caught. The next day, we started off the Ladies Tournament tied for first place with two marlin. Unfortunately then, the last day turned cold for us with only a couple of bites. You never know unless you're out there trying. There is still tons of life out there to see even if the fish aren't biting. The Ladies Tournament was a great success with a lot of boats and anglers entered. Everyone had fun, even if the fishing wasn't spectacular. Jackie on Two C's won the event with three marlin. Kryptonite placed second with two marlin and a dorado. Third place went to Costa Lotta, catching their marlin before us and a second on Day One. I'll take fourth, because I'm saving my luck for the big money tournaments hopefully. Definitely come and check out the weigh-ins this weekend for the Rescate / Yacht Club Tournament. There will be a little more pressure to win this time! It's always fun to fish with the ladies though, and I'll chide every guy on my charter this year who struggles with a fish and remind them of how our 72 year old angler effortlessly pulled in her first two marlin. The catch of the decade went to the Bucys on Lucky Two, as they brought in a behemoth 245 pound yellowfin tuna. They couldn't even pull it into the boat! It drew quite a crowd when they pulled into the harbor. There have been a few other large ones lost lately. I'd write more, but I'm heading out to look for them! tight lines, |

Ready, Set, Shop
There is also another reason to clean out your closets and that is to make room for a few new items! Again…this can all be done in the name of good design, especially if you buy new clothes that are color coordinated! See how my mind works? I usually make the short one-hour drive to Hermosillo every ten-days or so to see what is new at my favorite store, Liverpool’s. Liverpool was founded in 1847 by Jean Baptiste Ebrard, a Frenchman who first started selling clothes in cases in downtown Mexico City. Much of the merchandise was shipped via Liverpool, England, prompting Ebrard to adopt the name Liverpool for his store. This department store, one of the largest in Mexico, is a cross between Nordstroms and Macy’s and has something for everyone. This short video was filmed on a recent trip so you can see for yourself! Be sure and stop at the nearby Starbucks and get fully caffeinated before you begin your shopping spree! Watch a video of a Liverpool shopping spree. by Buyer's Agent Janey McLean |

Who's Who in Entertainment?
For more information on Mark, visit his website. Nine Questions for Mark: What was the first concert you ever saw? Buffett, way back on the “Last Mango In Paris” tour in 1985. He played after a Triple A minor league Phoenix Giants baseball game and my brothers took me. General admission tickets were 7 bucks. Can’t buy a beer at a concert for that price any more! What are you listening to these days? Everything from Zac Brown Band to Los Lonely Boys….My favorite writers are my fellow artists on the “trop-rock” circuit, guys like Rob Mehl, Kelly McGuire, Gary Seiler, etc. Big Dave Zobl fan too! Love to hear new stuff from older artists like the Eagles, Neil Diamond, John Fogerty, etc. Down here in Mexico I don’t have U.S. radio, so I listen to a lot of Latin stuff…artists like Mana, Los Enanitos Verdes from Argentina, Juan Luis Guerra from the Dominican Republic, Joan Sebastian from Mexico, Ricardo Arjona from Guatemala, Cuban salsa, nortena, banda, etc … a Christian artist named Chris Rice too. What was the first album you owned? My first LP was Jim Croce My first 45 single was some obscure AM one hit wonder back in the early 70’s called “Time”, I loved that song and listened to it so many times that my brothers eventually smashed it to pieces. What artist, genre or musical trend does everyone seem to love, but you just don't get? Hands down, hip hop. In fact I hesitate to use the term “musical”. (Music to me implies use of these wacky things called “instruments.”) What musical act, current or defunct would you most like to see perform live? The Eagles, in a non-stadium setting. Watching them as they just get better with age makes me want to pick up my guitar and practice more. Musically speaking what is your favorite guilty pleasure? I’m probably the last heterosexual left on earth who will admit to liking the Bee Gees. What song would you like to have played at your funeral? “It’s Been A Lovely Cruise” by Jimmy Buffett What band or artist changed your life and how? My former producer and awesome songwriter Jeff Percival, who was back then listed on my albums as “Jeff Tatum Jeff sank YEARS into recording a Christian album that the world has never heard called “Reaching For The Light”, writing every song, playing EVERY instrument from drums to guitars to keyboards to sax, producing it, engineering it. I look back on our studio sessions for my albums, and how many times we set the instruments down and talked about things far more important. When I look at where I am spiritually today, I can trace so much of it back to those sessions in Jeff’s studio, and literally thank God it took us so long to record those albums with all that conversation! Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time? Come on, just ONE? Springsteen’s “Born to Run” kicks butt from start to finish. Skip Ewing alone recorded 2 albums (“The Will to Love” and “The Coast of Colorado”) that are five star masterpieces… Rob Mehl’s “Could You Be More Pacific” is up there. Buffett’s “Changes in Attitudes, Changes in Latitudes”…..Kelly McGuire’s “Boat in Belize”…so many times my “favorite” album is the one I happen to be playing at the moment! What's Up San Carlos is published by David Irons and Christa ThomasSpecial thanks to Sue Fehrle, Eric Holland, Johan Broere, Janey Mclean and Bryan Replogle for their help with this issue. |

It was hot and cold this last week in San Carlos. The northwest winds kept a steady and sometimes brisk wind going and the water was a little choppy and cooler. It looks like things have changed for this week though, and it should heat up quickly. I'm expecting the best fishing of the early season to be this week and next.
12 Hours Salvando Vidas is an endurance bike race that took place at night, in the desert. Participants biked along a single track that wound its way over and through rocks, arroyos, cactus, and cattle 'hazards'.
