Where are the Fish?
Not a lot of fish caught this week, since no one was fishing during the storm! The weather forecast looks good again though. Those who did make it out may have had a good day. We were out on Sunday for a couple of hours and caught two large yellowtail near the seamounts. Earlier in the day, four guys jigged up a ‘boat load!’ off of San Antonio. Some mixed reports, but there are fish out there if you can find them. A friend tangled with a monster grouper for over an hour today before it broke free! On an interesting note, there are warm currents not too far south. The water offshore was up to 71 degrees and up to 75 degrees just 120 miles southeast. They are still catching lots of dorado, marlin, and even tuna off of Cabo San Lucas! It could be an early return for the pelagics with the strong El Nino currents out there. Get out on the water. Johan Broere’s Dive Report Early in the week we had some good dives. The water is still 64 to 66°F. Visibility was around 25 feet. My latest find is this beautiful Grinning Tun or Malea Ringens. It measures 7 by 5.25 inches. It is not a rare shell, but it is uncommon. There seems to be a link between the full moon and the extreme tides and the presence of this shell in shallow water. I found it in 12 feet of water in Catalina Cove. Next week the weather looks like a mixed bag, but with some good days. Lets go see what the last storm blew in. Who’s Who in Entertainment?
OPEN MIC at Club de Capitanes All you musicians, professionals, troubadours, street musicians, poets, writers, etc… Please take advantage of getting on a real stage with professional lighting and presenting your talent whether it be solo acoustic guitar, horns, spoons, gong or violin. Austin musician Ron Daizly shows up along with other local talents. If Charlie Chaplin still lived in Empalme, I am sure he would be frequenting Mike’s restaurant. Look for The Captain’s Club specials, both dinners and drinks, especially the cold, Chope Beer – or how about the garlic, sautéed, fresh Dorado fish tacos!

Wednesday Night Movie at the Yacht Club, January 27th.

Shrimp Festival – February 9

Manuelito: Manuel Armenta, Felipe Osuna, Xavier Garcia, and Demetrio Sandoval. Manuelito performs Fridays, 7:00pm to 11:00pm at the Captain’s Club and Saturdays, 8:30pm to 11:00pm at Bananas.
Eric Holland will be playing in Tucson center stage at Geronimo Square Art Walk on February 4th from 5:00pm until 8:00pm (West of University and Park Ave). This week the Art Show will focus on Erotica Paintings by 30 artists.
When Holland America’s cruise ship arrives in port on February 9th, there will be a shrimp festival in Guaymas on the malecón (details to follow).
