Conventions and Visitors Bureau
The Conventions and Visitors Bureau Guaymas San Carlos (OCV) has rolled out a beautiful new logo (as seen here).
What is the OCV? They’re the group that helps bring us such popular events as the Shrimp Festivals and the Fun Run.
At the OCV’s office, you can pick- up informative pamphlets and brochures, and some good maps of the area. The staff is friendly and bilingual and always eager to help people get aquainted with San Carlos and Guaymas.
The OCV also promotes San Carlos / Guaymas as a vacation destination by advertising in newspapers and magazines and on radio and television throughout Mexico and part of the USA and Canada, and by participating in tourism trade fairs and conferences.
For more information about the Conventions and Visitors Bureau visit their website.
And the next time one of your friends or relatives phones you and excitedly says, “Guess what, I am coming for a visit”, take a drive over to the OCV and check out what new ideas they have to offer.
Phone: 622-226-0202.
Location: The office is a white building on Beltrones Blvd, just west of Thrifty’s ice cream, and on the same side of the street .
Hours of business: Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 1:00pm and 2:00pm – 5:00pm, and Saturday 9:00am – 2:00pm.
Around San Carlos & Guaymas in Pictures
The shrimp samplings served by the various restaurants were delicious. A crowd favorite was the bacon wrapped shrimp prepared by Toro’s. Entertaining live performances ranged from mariachi to traditional dances. Craft stalls were set up both on the malecon and in Three Presidents Plaza. And the fountain was on and drew people down the malecon. There was even a colorful little train that took people around the festivities. I’m sure that the cruise ship passengers left Guaymas with a very favorable impression. You can watch a short video of the festivities here.

Where are the Fish? Some windy weather is still taking up many of our fishing days, but that isn’t stopping some of us from fishing. Some fish are still being caught off of San Antonio. One friend caught a 25 pound fish off his kayak there the other day. Another friend caught one of similar size spearfishing. Both said they had a good ride! Only three teams came out for the Couples Valentines Tournament on a very windy day. My wife caught the only fish and we decided to just refund everyone’s money. We still had a great day fishing together. On Sunday we tried San Pedro Island after the excellent reports we heard from there the previous week. We did catch one large yellowtail and one smaller one, along with many skipjack, but things appear to have ‘cooled off’ there. Well, maybe things are warming up. The water temperature is getting into the low 70′s. One marlin was spotted last week, and I expect that we’ll see a few more this week. I believe the fish may be getting ready to spawn in a few weeks on the next full moon. The seamounts right out front have held a few large fish in the last few days, but it now appears that San Antonio may be the better location. We picked up a few small grouper today and some nice sea bass out front. There’s always something to catch out there! tight lines, Bryan Replogle Team Margarita Sportfishing |

What’s Happening in the Water?
The water temperature is 68-70o F. That is ten degrees warmer than last year. That is hot! We had a nice surprise in the Aquarium with seven boats anchored at one time and lots of people having a good time snorkling in 72o F water in the shallow parts. Last week there were windy days, but now look what is coming. Sun, sun, sun and sun. Flat ocean and blue skies. It looks like May. The visibility was about 20 feet last week, but now when the wind lays down that should improve. It is time to get those Christmas presents wet. As always, plan your dive and dive your plan.
