Things are looking good for the tournament this weekend. The water could cool off a couple of degrees, as well as the air temperature! It is hot out there, but so is the fishing. This past week, reports started coming in about an area filled with nice dorado. There were lots of billfish too, but they weren't biting too good. It seems the fish have found some of the baby squid out there. In close, the pangas are already fishing for the big ones at night off of Guaymas. We were out on Friday for a catch of ten dorado and two sails. Most of the dorado were bulls in the 15 – 20 pound range. On Sunday we were out for just one good dorado, but a nice Striped Marlin got away and at the end of the day my wife pulled in a big sailfish. One big Blue was also lost that day in the 300 pound range, with one of similar size caught the day before. The tuna did pop their heads up once, but none were hooked.

The Cantina Cup is this weekend, so come on down for some weigh-in fun or for the festivities on Sunday night. Hopefully we'll see some life back in this town. The fishing should just get better from here on, especially when it really decides to cool down. Haven't heard of any bottomfishing reports. In shore, there is not a lot of bait, but if you get along the rocks opposite of the marina at the end of the Posada beach, the birds are feasting on something. For right now though, I'm headed offshore in search of the big ones!
