paris art exchangeThe San Carlos Yacht Club is pleased to host the Paris/San Carlos “Bridging Cultures” Art Exhibit/Sale from October 29 – November 5, 2011.

This is an extraordinary cultural event for San Carlos with 40 artists and sculptors from France, Mexico, Brazil and the United States exhibiting over 160 works of art with a variety of media and themes. Also, for the first time the Poetry Society of France will be participating with poetry performances and other cultural exchange events.

The project, organized by Victor Navarro, BFA Major from the University of Arizona and Denise Woirin, Art Critique for Drouot Cotation Paris, initiates a cultural artistic dialogue, bridging the old and new worlds by presenting master and aspiring artists for a yearly exchange between San Carlos and the international art scene.

The Opening Artists’ Reception will be October 29, 2011, at 3:00pm with imported wine and cheese (a donation of 100 pesos is requested). The exhibits will be at the Yacht Club and several locations along the Marina Terra Malecon.

Quick-Draw Paintings to be auctioned off for Castaway Kids!

By Terry Challis

I just returned from viewing the paintings done by the artists who are participating in the week-long Paris/San Carlos Art Exchange and I want to encourage everybody to go check them out. If you haven’t seen the art hung in the 2 exhibit locations, inside the Yacht Club and inside Exhibit Hall “B” at the end of the MarinaTerra Malecon, you need to stop by. They’ll be open all this week from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

Many of the artists participated in the Quick Draw Competition. They were given acrylic paints and canvases and were told they had 1 hour to complete a painting of any subject. Of course many chose to paint the harbor and Tetakawi view they had from the Yacht Club balcony; others chose flowers, portraits or other subjects. The quick-draw paintings will be exhibited in each of the two venues and anybody can make a silent auction bid on them. This could be your opportunity to get a bargain price on an original painting by any one of the talented artists who are taking part in this International Art Exchange. The silent auction will end Friday evening and the winners of the silent auction paintings will be announced at the Closing Evening, between 4:00pm – 6:30pm on Friday, November 4th. Everybody is welcome to come enjoy the open bar and bid adieu to the Parisian and other visiting artists.

I want to personally thank MaryLou & Jerry Nelson, the Yacht Club, Victor Navarro and everybody who helped organize this event. Special thanks also to Susan Lidsay who painted over 25 caricatures for Castaway Kids at the event’s opening reception. Enough money was earned for tuitions for 2 high school students!

So, check out the talented artists’ work– buy a work of art; while you’re at it, put in some bids for your favorite quick draw paintings– it’s for a good cause and we want to show the artists & organizers our appreciation.
