International Coastal CleanupOn September 19th, beginning at 10:00am, divers and shoreline volunteers are needed to help clean the beaches.

San Carlos’ diving community and local residents are being called upon to celebrate International Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 19.

Jorge E. Beltrán needs your help to target underwater and shoreline debris in San Carlos. Project AWARE Foundation coordinates underwater clean-up events and urges divers and volunteers to jump into their wetsuits, pull on their gloves and make a splash for trash!

“Project AWARE is pleased to support PRO-DIVERS Dive Center. Divers are the guardians of our underwater environments – they often see first hand the effects of marine debris on our delicate ecosystem. This event is the largest single day volunteer event on behalf of our underwater environment. “It’s a fantastic example of how people can work together to take action,” said Jenny Miller Garmendia, Director of Project AWARE Foundation.

“It’s not too late to get involved,” said Jorge. “If you’re interested in participating, please call me at 622-120-5854. And you don’t have to be a diver to get involved. Bring your friends and family along and help make clean waters a reality.”

Jorge will provide drinks (purifed water & soft drinks), garbage bags, prizes for the team who collects the most trash, Project AWARE Certificates and lots of fun.

Volunteers will help clean San Fransisco, Los Algadones and Piedras Pintas beaches. All volunteers should meet Jorge at 10:00am at Las Palapitas Restaurant on San Fransisco beach in San Carlos. There is plenty of free parking. From there, participants will be bussed to one of the three clean-up locations. Volunteers should bring their own gloves, extra water, sun screen, etc.

All divers need to confirm participation before the day and will be required to bring their diver certification card, fins, mask, snorkel, weights, regulators, BCD, tanks and sign an Underwater Liability Release Form.

If any businesses can contribute prizes, or help sponsor the event, please contact Jorge.
