3rd Annual San Carlos Yacht Club Art Show

On Sunday, April 3, from 3:00pm to 7:00pm, the San Carlos Yacht Club will host the “Not Just Another Art Show” Art Show (map).
Nineteen outstanding regional artists, including two exquisite jewelry designers, have created unique artwork specifically for this show. You will see work not previously exhibited in our area. Five of the artists will be exhibiting exclusively at this show. A must-see are Jim Garwood’s critters. You will be amazed at the whimsical characters that Jim creates from gourds.
The Guest Artist is Victor Navarro. He was born in Guadalajara, Mexico in 1988 and began to study in Paris at the age 15. At 16, he became the youngest artist in the industry to be part of the Drouot Cotation Fine Art Collection in Paris and soon he was honored with medals and awards in Europe and Asia. By age 19, he was one of the youngest artists in the world to exhibit at the Carrousel Du Louvre, Paris Exhibit 2008. Victor also continued to study with several Masters from Mexico and has created an extensive body of work to be shown at the international level in the upcoming years.
In 2009, Victor was named Ambassador to the United States for the Merite et Devouement Français for the promotion of literature, fine arts and culture of France. As such, he created the Paris Tucson Exchange Art Exhibit held in the fall of 2009 and 2010.

Lower your Cholesterol Naturally
by Kristina Ladau
Lowering your cholesterol naturally through diet and nutrition doesn’t have to be hard. Can a bowl of oatmeal help lower your cholesterol? How about a handful of walnuts or some fresh vegetables sautéed in olive oil and garlic? The answer is YES. A few simple tips and tweaks to your diet may be enough to lower your cholesterol to a healthy level and help you stay off medications. At any rate, you will start to see your numbers go down.
A low-cholesterol diet is also one of the best ways to improve heart health. In fact, studies show you can slash your bad cholesterol by as much as 10% to 20% by changing your diet. The secret? Follow a diet rich in healthy fats like vegetable oils and fish, and avoid foods high in saturated fats and trans fats. Read more to find out how nutrition can be a key in keeping your cholesterol low. |
Fishing Report
Last week was another great week of fishing, though not every day. The wind was up on Tuesday and stayed up most every afternoon, but not as strong. One of my boats was out with a couple and their daughter when three fish hit at once. They were able to boat two of them and my captain said he scaled one at 33 pounds. They each had a fish and they were tired and had had enough. I knew I should have sent the camera with them!
The next day, Arturo took some friends to the Island, but they struck out. Only a couple of fish were seen caught. Other reports throughout the week from the Island were slim at best. On Saturday we stayed in close and caught a couple of fish in the morning. We tried in the afternoon in the wind and ran straight to a flock of birds for an immediate quadruple hook-up. The next pass produced a triple hook-up and the fishing was on fire for 10 pound yellowtail. The next morning produced three fish for us before the dolphin came in and scared off the fish. We tried again in the afternoon catching six, with a 20 pound fish at sunset. On Monday, they were gone.
It looks like the weather should be very nice this week, with calm seas and gentle breezes turning from the south. The water is not as clear, so I’m not sure how the fishing will be. My bet right now would be to try the Haystack area off of Guaymas in the afternoon. The bottomfishing has been good at times for calico bass, but not many grouper are showing yet. We had decent action in close for cabrilla and pargo, though you’ll have to contend with a lot of barracuda and seaweed. I’ll be looking to head to the bass lake tomorrow and jump in to cool off. I’m sure the desert to the south is bright yellow in color. Enjoy the ‘cool’ weather while it lasts and get out there!

Free Movie in Guaymas
CineClub Guaymas presents the free movie, “Mi Vida Dentro” (My Life Inside) on Wednesday, March 30 at 7:00pm in Guaymas’ Municipal Auditorium (map).

In January of 2003, she was arrested for suspicion of murder and then sent to trial in August 2005. Rosa’s imprisonment in a foreign country, the judicial process, the verdict, the separation from her family, and her powerlessness make Mi vida dentro a true and revealing look into the life of Mexican immigrants in the United States.
