San Carlos Weather, News & Marketplace
- According to the National Weather Service, a broad area of low pressure located about 200 miles south of the gulf of tehuantepec continues to produce disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions appear conducive for some gradual development of this system over the next several days. There is a low chance (20 percent) of this system becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours as it moves westward or west-northwestward at around 10 mph. Temperatures will continue to be in the mid to high 30′s C (95 – 100F). Keep an eye on the weather at our San Carlos Weather page with satellite images and a live feed from Storm Pulse.
- July tide chart (surge forecast) for Guaymas. The forecasts are based on historical hourly data at sea level, primarily maintained by CICESE and Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM).
- In a recent press conference, the Mayor of Guaymas, César Lizárraga, announced that the City plans to build a desalination plant in San Carlos next year. The plant will treat 120 liters per second and supply about 100 liters of drinking water per second. There was no indication as to the proposed location of the plant.
- Watch Dan Greene’s video of “2 epic days of Fishing, Scuba Diving, and Spearfishing in San Carlos, Sonora Mexico!”.
- Watch the amazing video of the recent whale rescue in the Sea of Cortez.
- There are video games, a camper shell, sliding glass door, sailboats, an inflatable dinghy, washer, dryer, refrigerators, many houses for rent and for sale, sports equipment and more now listed in the Classifieds. San Carlos Loves Dogs
by Bliss Cochran
an Carlos may not have a dog shelter anymore, but there are a few people (even in summer!) fostering abandoned dogs until their new families arrive to give them permanent homes.
San Carlos Loves Dogs is a new Facebook page, with photos of foster dogs, as much information as we can accumulate (size, age, whether neutered and vaccinated, behavior with humans and other dogs, health status, etc.) and a contact phone number where prospective adopters can get more information. Owners who have lost dogs can also check there to see if their pets have been found, or post descriptions and photos in case they’ve been spotted. Thanks to Janey McLean of Tidbit fame for coming up with the name.
Visit San Carlos Loves Dogs and find your new best friend.
If you are fostering a dog that needs a home, please email a photo and description to blissinger@gmail.com and we’ll add it to our Facebook page. If you can’t get a photo, let us know and we’ll come take one.
We can do a page for cats, too, if we can get information and photos. We’ll call it San Carlos Loves Cats, of course.

Quarterly Real Estate Summary
by Janey McLean
As they say, nothing happens until something sells and the good news is that homes and condos in San Carlos are continuing to sell and we are welcoming new neighbors into our community! Whenever a homeowner sells their home they can move forward with their life and on to new adventures. As well, when someone buys their San Carlos home they bring new energy and new enthusiasm with them as well as add to our local economy.
I am pleased to present the real estate sales figures for the first two quarters of 2011 and have provided the correlating figures from 2010 for your reference. Note that MSP refers to the median sales price of the home, condo, or lot in each particular quarter. Read more. |
The Tantalizing Tomato
by Kristina Ladau
Tomatoes are one of the most popular food items in the typical American diet; with the BLT holding a proud place since the 1930’s, yet few realize the powerful health and nutrition-promoting benefits of this bright red fruit. Or wait –is it a vegetable? In 1893, the nutritious tomato had its day in court–the Supreme Court. Due to tariffs placed on tomatoes imported from the West Indies, they were the subject of a Supreme Court decision and were officially labeled a vegetable. Originating in Central America and cultivated by the Aztecs, the tomato is now grown world wide and consumed in many diverse ways. Whichever way you slice them, the tomato is a superfood packed with plenty of disease fighting nutrients. Read more and try the Tomato Sauce Recipe. |

47 anglers on 17 boats released 17 marlin and 21 sailfish and weighed 56 Dorado, 2 Tuna and 1 Wahoo.
The rain finally came to San Carlos last night and cooled things off for the moment. The seas are flat and the fish are biting. For the most part we have had good weather and not that hot compared to inland. We’ve got a sweat going a few times though and that was pretty much due to some hot fishing. There are lots of big bull dorado around with 30 pound fish almost daily. Some are getting up to 50 pounds and I hear a lot of stories of the ‘one that got away’. The billfish are not that thick, but the few that are around are biting good. They are farther out it seems, along with where the big dorado are. Most of the action is out in the blue water starting beyond the reef at 12 miles, and picking up farther out to 25 miles. A few big blue marlin are being caught and I heard a rumor of a 500 pound fish. We had a good tournament with some excellent fishing results. The next tournament will be on the Labor Day weekend, so there is lots of time to practice. Let’s just hope that it can stay relatively cool. This is some of the best dorado fishing I have ever experienced. I’m ready for a few of those 30 pound fish or a wahoo to bite my line though.
tight lines, Bryan Replogle repsilon@aol.com
