San Carlos Art Gallery

Art Gallery San Carlos What do James Cameron and many art aficionados have in common? Their love and appreciation of the talents of Puerto Vallarta artist Armando Becerra of course! Becerra, who paints under the name of Becris (a combination of his parents’ last names) in the United States, is a focal artist in the Galeria Bellas Artes Fine Arts Gallery in San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico. The gallery is a showcase for the works of approximately 30 artists from Guadalajara, Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta, and includes local San Carlos talent as well. To view some of artwork, visit the gallery’s website.

Architect and owner Burke Rutherford and his wife, Pilar, designed this charming gallery. Mr. Rutherford’s artistic skills not only include architecture, he is a sculptor as well. His passion for sculpture and art in general led to his decision to open a gallery in his adopted home of San Carlos fifteen years ago.

Rosie Garcia, the gallery manager for the past eleven years, showed me several oil paintings by Mexican artist Jorge Prieto and other crafts by Mexican artisans.

The gallery is able to provide custom framing and they also carry a supply of ready-made frames.

With the capability to pack and ship your purchases, there is no reason not to pick up a painting as a gift or to ship back home as a souvenir of your visit to San Carlos!

President Calderón leads expansion of Once TV coverage (channel 11). During the signing of the agreement to expand Once TV México coverage, President Felipe Calderón declared that this is the first step towards a public television station that will reach the whole country (read more). Once TV is also available by webcast.

Guaymas and San Carlos have clean beaches, safe and free from contamination, according to testing recently done by the Ministries of Environment and Health under the Clean Beaches Program.

Guaymas’ Tourist Malecón is being repaired. Work has begun to the portion of the Malecón near the fountain that was damaged in last year’s storm.

Most “Hollywood” movies for adults are in English with Spanish subtitles, but check before you go. Cost — Adults $47 pesos, $37 pesos on Wednesday. And, the first movie each day is only $42 pesos.

Marina Cantina. 11:00am -5:00pm, Monday through Friday, 12 peso beer (Pacifico, Pacifico Light, Modelo, Modelo Light, Corona, Corona Light). Paradise Bar. Thursday, all day, 25 peso national drinks. Everyday, get a 10 bottle bucket of Sol for 150 pesos, or bucket of Tecate for 200 pesos.

Mar de Cortez at Pilar. 4:00pm – 6:00pm with 20 peso beer, 20 peso margaritas and 70 peso pitchers of beer.

El Botanero. 5:00pm to 7:00pm everyday. The special “drink of the day” is 2X1 all day, every day.
