Health | The Power of Protein

Did you know that protein is a vital part of every tissue, cell and organ in your body?

It is a primary component of our muscles, bones, hair, nails, skin, eyes, and internal organs; especially the heart. Many people are aware that protein is found in animal-based foods. However, protein is also found in other sources, important for vegetarians and others who cannot or will not eat animal-based foods.

Making healthy protein choices and not over-eating protein is important for many reasons, including the decreased consumption of saturated fat and cholesterol. The American Heart Association recommends that 10 to 15 percent of your daily calorie intake should come from a source of protein. Read more……..

Fishing Report

Feliz Ano Nuevo, and lets hope for some prospero! I’d wish for prosperous fishing, but I know that will happen. Let’s just hope that people stop listening to the “lies” up North and their uninformed neighbors and relatives and “brave” the border. I keep watching the Gangland shows on Cable featuring a different US city nightly, and wonder how they can be concerned about us?

Well the wind is blowing part of the time, so when you get your chance, get out there. Out where? The Island – Isla San Pedro Nolasco. The action could get better again in close, but in general the Island is the place to be for yellowtail. Some friends made it out a few days ago to catch seven big yellowtail and over a dozen Fortune Jacks. They look just like yellowtail, but are smaller and reddish. I am not sure why they are called Fortune Jacks, but in Hawaii, they had to have red fish over New Years for good luck.

Let’s hope that that is a sign for some good luck this year. They are fairly rare here, leading me to believe that we may see other unusual trends with the continuing La Nina currents. I’ve had enough of the La Nina clouds coming through, but at least we’re not suffering like our neighbors to the North.

I just got back from a couple days of fishing Lake Oviache two hours to the South. It is a huge reservoir with excellent bass fishing. Twelve fish is a poor day for an angler, with 30+ fish days being common. We stayed at the restaurant there, where there was good lodging, and a decent ramp. Another great lake is Lake Novillo a couple hours east of Hermosillo. With world-class bass fishing around, even if the wind is blowing you can fish every day of winter here. You won’t need an auger, but you may want to bring a jacket.

Just talked to my lure rep. in Minnesota who said the ice was almost thick enough to drive on now. I think I’ll just have to continue to brave our “extreme violence” and the fear that I might have to wear some pants and a light jacket in the morning. I’d rather be buying lures and fishing than paying for a heating bill!

Next week I’ll post some more specifics about our 5th Annual Yellowtail Tournament. The dates are February 5th and 6th, with registration at Ruby Wine Bar the night before. Entry fees won’t be prohibitive and there are some jackpots for the “gamblers”, or those with some confidence. Hope to see you there!
