Aceptame Como Soy (Accept me as I am) is a foundation formed by the Hinojos family to help children with special needs, and they are very involved with CAME #2, a State-funded school in Miramar for special needs children. A group from San Carlos visited this school last month and met the administrators, saw the facilities, including the new interactive learning-based Computer Center created by the efforts of the Hinojos family, and watched the teachers and students in action in the classrooms. Rachelle Zola, one of the visitors, holds a Masters degree in Special Education and has written a book on the subject: “Simple Successes: From Obstacles to Solutions with Special Needs Children”, which is currently being translated into Spanish.
From her experience in the field working with special needs children and their parents and teachers, Rachelle identified a need for the classrooms to be equipped with additional tactile learning materials. To that end, she researched and found a very popular 60-piece Building Block Set on Amazon, available for $51.50. At this time, there are 6 different grades at the school, and Rachelle’s goal is to provide every class with a set of blocks. She is looking for a few generous sponsors from San Carlos/Guaymas to help with the costs. If you are able to sponsor a set or even part of a set of Building Blocks, kindly contact Rachelle at: cel # 622-225-9287; Vonage # 303-660-6309; or email: rrzola@msn.com. Thank you for helping build a better learning environment for many needy kids.
