A group of folks from San Carlos recently attended a free concert at the Casa de Cultura in Guaymas where the Luna band was playing. Esperanza and Alberto Torres reserved a table for us and brought lovely trays of breads and cheeses. We all brought a bottle of wine to share and it was a nice evening of music in the courtyard. For those of you who don’t know, the Casa de Cultura is the beautiful colonial building on Serdan at 14th Street (on your right going into town) and it even has an enclosed parking lot behind it. You have to go one street beyond due to the one-way streets, but it is well worth it. Don’t want to drive? The public bus will stop right about there. A different musician or group performs each week. This week a young singer by the name of Luis Trejo will be performing. The program starts at 7:00pm, but get there a little early and enjoy the paintings that are displayed. The Casa de Cultura has teachers to teach children to play music, they have a band and a chorus, they offer art lessons and workshops, as well as these free concerts every Friday night. I’m sure they offer many other services that I don’t even know about — it’s time to learn more. For more information, phone 222-9602 or e-mail casa_cultura_guaymas@hotmail.com.
