I finally made it out after weeks of sitting in the office … well maybe an average of an hour or two a day. The weather was perfect even though the reports were a little slim. One captain was catching 3-5 fish a trip, but many boats were coming home empty handed. I thought we were going to be one of them. No one had caught a fish among six boats until 2:30, then I saw our friends speed up around the point. The fish came up and kept coming up sporadically. It didn’t really matter though because the school was huge and they seemed to be everywhere. We caught yellowtail until sunset, and could barely lift our arms by the end of the day. We caught lots of nice fish with the biggest weighing 29 pounds. At times they were almost hitting the boat and I could have jumped in and caught them with my bare hands. Timing is everything and they are difficult fish to figure out. So if it’s a nice day, just get out there and hope for the best.
Come on down to Marina San Carlos this weekend on Saturday afternoon and Sunday at 2:30pm at Ruby Wine Bar for the weigh-in for our 5th Annual Yellowtail Tournament.
