Villa Mexicana is circled. The trail starts and ends near here. Park near Solimar. Start peddling. Start on the graded dirt road that is across from Solimar … it is to the right of Villa Mexicana, if you’re facing it.
The road curves to the right and a dirt path veers to the left. Take the path. You are now on the path that is marked in yellow … winding your way through a valley that is behind Loma Bella. You can usually spot jack rabbits here.
Where the valley ends, the path turns left and heads up hill. Coasting is done and a little more effort is needed here. You’ll now be going up several steep loose rock hills.
At the top of this first hill, the path forks in three directions. Turn right and continue up … you are now at the point shown in the picture. Oh oh, even more effort needed.
The view from the top … making it all worth while … great spot for a water break.
From the top, you can head down a different side (the only other path down) and up another hill that looks up and down a lush valley … behind Club Deportivo. This path doesn’t go further than what is shown in the photo below in the circle. You can go to the end and come back. It just adds some distance and a great view (route B in the picture below).
If you go this way, you don’t have to go all the way back to the top of the hill that you came from, as a trail at the base of the hill connects back to the bottom of the original trail.
At the bottom of 2a hill, don’t turn left the way that you originally came, but continue forward along the spine of the hill (#3 in the above photo). The little path veering to the right of route #3 doesn’t go much farther than what is shown in the photo, but adds a little distance to the trek.
Carrying on along #3 will take you to the back of Villa Mexicana. Turn left to get back to the graded dirt road, then turn right to your car … or keep peddling if you got here on your own steam.
Congrats …another great bike ride.
